When refueling, observe the following guidelines:
- Extinguish all smoking materials and any open flame before refueling the vehicle.
- Switch off the engine before refueling.
- Automotive fuel may be harmful or fatal if swallowed. Fuel is highly toxic and swallowing it may result in death or permanent injury. If fuel is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately, even if no symptoms are present. The toxic effects of fuel may not be apparent for hours.
- Avoid breathing fuel vapors. Breathing fuel vapors may cause irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract. In severe cases, excessive or prolonged breathing of fuel vapors may cause serious illness and permanent injury.
- Avoid getting fuel in your eyes. If fuel splashes into your eyes, immediately remove contact lenses, if worn, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention. Failure to seek proper medical attention may result in permanent injury.
- Fuel can be harmful if absorbed through the skin. If you spill fuel on your skin, clothing, or both, remove contaminated clothing as soon as possible and thoroughly wash the skin with soap and water. Repeated or prolonged skin contact causes skin irritation.
- Be especially careful if you are taking Antabuse or other forms of disulfiram for the treatment of alcoholism. Inhaling fuel vapors may cause an adverse reaction, serious personal injury or illness. Contact a physician immediately if you experience any adverse reactions.
