If you primarily drive your vehicle under any of the following conditions, you must perform additional maintenance as specified. If you drive your vehicle occasionally under none of these conditions, additional maintenance is not required. For specific recommendations, consult your dealer service advisor or technician.

Perform the services listed in the following tables when indicated or within 3,000 miles (4,800 km) of the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message appearing in the information display.

Example 1: The OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message comes on at 28,751 miles (46,270 km). Perform the 30,000 mile (48,000 km) automatic transmission fluid change.

Example 2: The OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message has not come on, but the odometer reads 30,000 miles (48,000 km) (for example, the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor was reset at 25,000 miles (40,000 km)). Perform the engine air filter replacement.

Exceptions

There are several exceptions to the normal schedule:

Fuel Filter Replacement in California

If you register your vehicle in California, the California Air Resources Board has determined that failure to perform this maintenance item does not void the emissions warranty or limit recall liability before the end of your vehicle's useful life. However, Ford Motor Company strongly recommends that you have all recommended maintenance performed at the specified intervals and keep all vehicle service records.

Oil Change Intervals in Hot Climates

Normal oil change interval for vehicles operating in the Middle East, North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, or areas with similar climates, using oil certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for gasoline engines (API Certification Symbol) of quality SM or SN, is 3000 miles (5000 km).

If API SM or SN oil is not available, the oil change interval is 2000 miles (3000 km).

Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter Replacement

The service life of the engine air filter and cabin air filter depends on exposure to dusty and dirty conditions. Vehicles operated under these conditions require more frequent inspection and replacement of the engine air filter and cabin filter.
