Pinpoint Test - DTC: EE. Diagnosis and Testing

~4min read

U2300:55, U2300:64

For circuit and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 46.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

During the first ignition cycle after a new RCM is installed, the IPC sends a message with configuration data to the RCM during RCM confirmation. During the check of each subsequent ignition cycle, the IPC sends configuration data to the RCM, and the RCM compares the message with the one received during the very first ignition cycle.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Trouble Code Description Fault Trigger Conditions
U2300:55 Central configuration: not configured This DTC is present in every new RCM. After a new RCM is installed and successfully receives a configuration data message from the IPC, this DTC is reported as a CMDTC. If the RCM reports this DTC on demand, the configuration data message has not been received from the IPC.
U2300:64 Central configuration: signal integrity failure This DTC is set if the RCM receives a configuration data message that does not match the configuration data previously received and stored. This DTC is set on demand during an RCM self-test, then changes to a CMDTC later in the ignition cycle when the correct message is received. This DTC is also set if a PMI has not been performed for the IPC.

Possible Causes

  • RCM or IPC Configuration
  • PCM
  • RCM

PINPOINT TEST A: U2300:55, U2300:64
NOTE: Only disconnect or reconnect SRS components when instructed to do so in the Pinpoint Test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in an incorrect SRS diagnosis.
NOTE: Always verify the correct SRS component is installed. Parts released for other vehicles may be incompatible even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in the Ford parts catalog to confirm the correct component is installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be set.
NOTE: Before returning the vehicle to the customer, the SRS must be fully functional and operating correctly.
A1 REMOVE RCM (RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

  • REFER TO: Pyrotechnic Device Handling Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
  • The ignition is on.
  • Using the diagnostic scanner, perform the RCM self-test.
  • Record the RCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) retrieved during the self-test.

Is DTC U2300:55 or U2300:64 retrieved on demand?
Yes GO to A2
No If DTC U2300:55 or U2300:64 is retrieved as a CMDTC, CLEAR the RCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and REPEAT the self-test.
If DTC U2300:55 or U2300:64 does not return, RELEASE the vehicle to the customer.
If DTC U2300:55 or U2300:64 returns on demand, GO to A2.
A2 CHECK THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) FOR CORRECT PART
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool log view function, retrieve and record the IPC part number.
  • Compare the recorded part number with the number listed in the Ford parts catalog.

Does the recorded part number match the number listed in the Ford parts catalog?
Yes GO to A3
No INSTALL the correct IPC and USE the scan tool when performing the PMI.
REFER TO: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) (413-01 Instrument Cluster, Message Center and Warning Chimes, Removal and Installation).
GO to A4.
A3 CHECK THE RCM (RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE) FOR CORRECT PART
  • Using the diagnostic scanner data log function, retrieve and record the RCM part number.
  • Compare the recorded part number with the number listed in the Ford parts catalog.

Does the recorded part number match the number listed in the Ford parts catalog?
Yes PERFORM a PMI for the IPC using the scan tool. CLEAR the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and REPEAT the RCM self-test.
If DTC U2300:55 or U2300:64 is logged, PERFORM a PMI for the RCM using the scan tool.
GO to A4.
No INSTALL the correct RCM and use the scan tool when performing the PMI.
REFER TO: Restraints Control Module (RCM) (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation).
GO to A4.
A4 CHECK THE RCM (RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE) OR IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
  • The ignition is on.
  • Using the diagnostic scanner, perform the RCM self-test.
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

Were any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) retrieved from the RCM or IPC during the self-test?
Yes If DTCs were retrieved from the RCM, do not clear any DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved.
REFER TO: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) (501-20B).
If DTCs were retrieved from the IPC, diagnose the IPC concern.
REFER TO: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) (413-01 Instrument Cluster, Message Center and Warning Chimes, Removal and Installation).
No CLEAR all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs). VERIFY THE SRS. Repair is complete. RELEASE the vehicle to the customer.
