Pinpoint Test - DTC: V. Diagnosis and Testing

~17min read

B1415:11, B1415:93, B1418:11 and B1418:93

For circuit and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 46.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The RCM monitors the passenger front door and left rear pillar side impact sensors and circuits for the following faults:

  • Open circuit
  • Short to voltage
  • Short to Ground
  • Passenger front door side impact sensor malfunction
  • Faulty left rear pillar side impact sensor

When a fault is detected, the RCM stores DTC B1415:11, B1415:93, B1418:11 or B1418:93 in memory and sends a message to the IPC to turn on the airbag indicator.

The RCM communicates with each crash sensor. If the RCM cannot communicate with the sensor, the DTC is stored in memory. A continuous memory diagnostic trouble code (CMDTC) no operation (failure type: 93) may be set by a short to voltage in the crash sensor return circuit.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Trouble Code Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B1415:11 Driver Side Supplemental Restraint System Sensor 2: Short to Ground The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a short to ground on the passenger door side impact sensor, a short to ground on the left second row side impact sensor, a short to ground on the passenger front door impact sensor power supply circuit, or a short to ground on the left second row side impact sensor power supply circuit.
B1415:93 Driver Side Restraint Sensor 2: Inoperative The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a faulty left second row side impact sensor, a short to voltage on the supply or return circuit of the left second row side impact sensor, a short to voltage on the supply or return circuit of the passenger front door side impact sensor, or an open supply or return circuit of the passenger front door side impact sensor.
B1418:11 Passenger Side Secondary Restraint Sensor 1: Short to Ground The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a short to ground on the passenger front door side impact sensor, a short to ground on the left second row side impact sensor, a short to ground on the passenger front door impact sensor power supply circuit, or a short to ground on the left second row side impact sensor power supply circuit.
B1418:93 Passenger Side Air Bag Sensor 1: Inoperative The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a faulty passenger front door side impact sensor, a short to voltage on the supply or return circuit of the passenger front door side impact sensor, a short to voltage on the supply or return circuit of the left second row side impact sensor, or an open supply or return circuit of the passenger front door side impact sensor.

Possible Causes

PINPOINT TEST A: B1415:11, B1415:93, B1418:11 AND B1418:93
NOTE: Most concerns are related to connector and/or wiring issues. Perform a thorough inspection and check before proceeding to the Pinpoint Test.
NOTE: SRS components must be disabled or reconnected only when directed to do so in a pinpoint test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in an incorrect SRS diagnosis.
NOTE: Always verify the correct SRS component is installed. Parts released for other vehicles may be incompatible even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in the Ford parts catalog to confirm the correct component is installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be set.
NOTE: Before returning the vehicle to the customer, the SRS must be fully functional and operating correctly.
NOTE: Do not probe the impact sensor. The impact sensor cannot be tested with a multimeter.
