Pinpoint Test - DTC: U. Diagnosis and Testing

~17min read

B1414:11, B1414:93, B1419:11, B1419:93

For circuit and connector information, refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 46.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The RCM monitors the driver side front door and right rear pillar side crash sensors and circuits for the following faults:

  • Open circuit
  • Short to voltage
  • Short to Ground
  • Driver front door side impact sensor fault
  • Right Rear Pillar Side Crash Sensor Faulty

When a fault is detected, the RCM stores DTC B1414:11, B1414:93, B1419:11 or B1419:93 in memory and sends a message to the IPC to illuminate the airbag warning indicator.

The RCM communicates with each crash sensor. If the RCM cannot communicate with the sensor, the DTC is stored in memory. A continuous memory diagnostic trouble code (CMDTC) no operation (failure type: 93) may be set by a short to voltage in the crash sensor return circuit.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

Trouble Code Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B1414:11 Driver Side Supplemental Restraint System Sensor 1: Short to Ground The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a short in the driver side front door side crash sensor, a short in the right second row side crash sensor, a short to ground in the driver side front door crash sensor supply circuit, or a short to ground in the supply circuit of the right second row side crash sensor.
B1414:93 Driver Side Restraint System Sensor 1: Inoperative The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a faulty driver side front door side crash sensor, a short to voltage in the supply or return circuit of the driver side front door crash sensor, a short to voltage in the supply or return circuit of the right second row side crash sensor, or an open in the supply or return circuit of the driver side front door side crash sensor.
B1419:11 Passenger Side Secondary Restraint Sensor 2: Short to Ground The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a short in the driver side front door side crash sensor, a short in the right second row side crash sensor, a short to ground in the driver side front door crash sensor supply circuit, or a short to ground in the supply circuit of the right second row side crash sensor.
B1419:93 Passenger Side Restraint System Sensor 2: Inoperative The fault is indicated when the RCM detects a faulty right second row side crash sensor, a short to voltage in the supply or return circuit of the right second row side crash sensor, a short to voltage in the supply or return circuit of the driver side front door side crash sensor, or an open in the supply or return circuit of the right second row side crash sensor.

Possible Causes

  • Wiring, Terminals or Connectors

PINPOINT TEST A: B1414:11, B1414:93, B1419:11, B1419:93
NOTE: Most concerns are related to connector and/or wiring issues. Perform a thorough inspection and check before proceeding to the Pinpoint Test.
NOTE: Only disconnect or reconnect SRS components when instructed to do so in the Pinpoint Test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in an incorrect SRS diagnosis.
NOTE: Always verify the correct SRS component is installed. Parts released for other vehicles may be incompatible even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in the Ford parts catalog to confirm the correct component is installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be set.
NOTE: Before returning the vehicle to the customer, the SRS must be fully functional and operating correctly.
NOTE: Do not probe the impact sensor. The impact sensor cannot be tested with a multimeter.
