Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms
On vehicles equipped with a 1.0L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine or a 1.6L GTDI engine, the RCM sends an event notification signal that communicates crash status and SRS deployment status to the FPDM. When the FPDM receives an event notification signal indicating a crash, it initiates a fuel shutoff.
On vehicles equipped with a 1.6 L Dual Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) engine, the RCM sends an event notification signal that communicates crash status and SRS deployment status to either the PCM or the FPDM, depending on the vehicle emissions equipment. When either module receives an event notification signal indicating a crash, it initiates a fuel shutoff.
The RCM monitors the event notification signal circuit for the following faults:
Short to voltage
Short to Ground
Open circuit
When a fault is detected, the RCM stores DTC B11D8:12 or B11D8:14 in memory. The airbag warning indicator will not illuminate for B11D8:12 or B11D8:14.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
Trouble Code
Description
Fault Trigger Conditions
B11D8:12
Restraint Event Notification: Short to Battery
The fault is registered when the RCM detects a short to battery voltage in the event notification signal circuit for more than 15 seconds.
B11D8:14
Restraint Event Notification: Short to Ground or Open Circuit
The fault is registered when the RCM detects a short to ground or an open in the event notification signal circuit for more than 15 seconds.

PINPOINT TEST A: B11D8:12 AND B11D8:14
NOTE: Most concerns are related to connector and/or wiring issues. Perform a thorough inspection and check before proceeding to the Pinpoint Test.
NOTE: Only disconnect or reconnect SRS components when instructed to do so in the Pinpoint Test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in an incorrect SRS diagnosis.
NOTE: Install new components only if directed by the pinpoint test.
NOTE: Always verify the correct SRS component is installed. Parts released for other vehicles may be incompatible even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in the Ford parts catalog to confirm the correct component is installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be set.
NOTE: Before returning the vehicle to the customer, the SRS must be fully functional and operating correctly.
