Distributor Installation
INSTALLATION
PROCEDURE
If the crankshaft was rotated while the distributor was removed from the engine, bring the engine to TDC of No. 1 cylinder (refer to the appropriate Section in the Engine chapter) and align the rotor position when installing the distributor.
1. Install a new O-ring onto the distributor housing.
2. Carefully insert the distributor into the mounting bore in the cylinder head. Align the index marks made during removal.
The tangs on the distributor shaft end and the matching slots in the camshaft end are asymmetrical, so the distributor cannot be installed rotated 180°.
3. If the distributor cannot be fully seated, first verify that the index marks are aligned, then make sure the rotor tip points exactly toward the mark on the edge of the housing.
4. Loosely install the hold-down bolt(s).
5. Perform the remaining installation in the reverse order of removal. Check the ignition timing, then tighten the distributor hold-down bolt(s) to specification.
