Shift Lever Lock Override

The lock override device allows the shift lever to be moved out of P (Park) if the normal procedure of depressing the brake pedal and pressing the lock release button does not work.

1. Apply the parking brake.

2. When removing the key from the ignition switch;

3. To prevent scratches, cover the edge of the cover that gives access to the lock override mechanism with a piece of cloth. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver or another suitable tool, carefully press the edge of the cover and remove it.

4. Insert the ignition key into the lock override slot.

5. Press the key down while pressing the lock release button, and move the shift lever from P (Park) to N (Neutral).

6. Remove the key from the lock override slot and reinstall the cover. Make sure the mark on the cover faces the passenger side. Depress the brake pedal and start the engine.

Need to use the shift lever lock override mechanism indicates a malfunction in the vehicle.

Take the vehicle to an authorized dealer service center for inspection.
