Wiper Blade Inserts

Check the condition of the wiper blade inserts at least once every six months. Replace the wiper blade inserts if they are cracked or have lost their elasticity, or if they leave streaks or do not clean the glass properly.

To replace the windshield wiper blade inserts, perform the following procedure:

1. Raise the windshield wiper arms, first on the driver side, then on the passenger side.

Do not open the hood while the wiper arms are raised, to avoid damaging the hood or the wiper arms.

2. Remove the wiper blade from the wiper arm:

• Press and hold the lock.

• Slide the blade toward the lock so that it disconnects from the wiper arm.

When replacing the wiper blade inserts, take care not to let the wiper arm drop onto the windshield.

3. Remove the wiper blade insert from the holder by grasping the end of the insert with the projections.

Pull the insert firmly so that its projections come out of the holder.

4. Inspect the new wiper blade inserts.

If they do not have plastic or metal reinforcing ribs along the base of the inserts, remove the reinforcing ribs from the old inserts and install them in the grooves of the new inserts.

Make sure that the three rubber projections inside the insert align with the grooves on the reinforcing rib, as shown in the illustration.

5. Place the top of the insert against the end of the blade and insert the insert into the blade in the direction of the arrow.

Make sure the insert is fully inserted.

6. Install the blade assembly on the arm. Make sure the blade is locked in the correct position.

7. Lower the wiper arm onto the windshield. Lower the passenger-side wiper first, then the driver-side wiper.

To replace the rear window wiper blade insert, perform the following procedure:

1. Move the arm away from the rear window.

2. Disconnect the blade from the arm by turning it upward.

3. Pull one end of the insert out of the holder.

Pull the insert out of the holder.

4. Inspect the new wiper blade inserts.

If they do not have plastic or metal reinforcing ribs along the base of the inserts, remove the reinforcing ribs from the old inserts and install them in the grooves of the new inserts.

5. Insert the new insert into the holder.

Make sure it is locked along its entire length.

Insert both ends of the insert into the holder.

Make sure they are securely fastened.

6. Install the blade assembly on the arm. Make sure the blade is locked in the correct position.

7. Lower the arm onto the glass.
