Automatic Transmission Fluid

Check the automatic transmission fluid level when the engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature.
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Start the engine and let it run until the cooling fan comes on, then stop the engine. For accurate results, wait about 60 seconds (but no more than 90 seconds) before performing step 2.

2. Remove the dipstick (with the yellow handle) from the automatic transmission case and wipe it dry with a clean cloth.

3. Reinsert the dipstick fully into the transmission, as shown in the illustration.
4. Remove the dipstick again and check the fluid level. The level should be between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick.

5. If the fluid level is below the lower mark, add fluid through the dipstick opening until the level is between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick.

Add fluid slowly and carefully to avoid spilling. Immediately wipe up any spilled fluid, as it may damage components located in the engine compartment.
