Exhaust System

1 – bolt, 30–40 N·m;
2 – gasket;
3 – catalytic converter;
4 – center muffler;
5 – main muffler;
6 – hanger;
7 – nut, 30–40 N·m;
8 – bolt, 40–60 N·m;
9 – inlet exhaust pipe;
10 – oxygen sensor;
11 – catalytic converter.

Removal

Main Muffler

Before removing or inspecting exhaust system components, make sure the system has cooled sufficiently.

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the muffler from the center pipe.

2. Remove the rubber hangers and remove the main muffler from the vehicle.

Center Pipe

PROCEDURE

1. Separate the center muffler from the inlet exhaust pipe.

2. Remove the rubber hangers and remove the center muffler from the vehicle.

Catalytic Converter

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the catalytic converter from the inlet exhaust pipe.

2. Remove the catalytic converter from the cylinder head.

Inlet Exhaust Pipe

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the connector from the oxygen sensor.
2. Separate the inlet exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter or exhaust manifold.
3. Remove the front exhaust pipe clamp bolt and the center muffler mounting nut.

Inspection

PROCEDURE

1. Check the mufflers and pipes for corrosion and damage.
2. Check the rubber hangers for deterioration and cracks.

Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Temporarily install the catalytic converter assembly, inlet exhaust pipe, center and rear mufflers.
2. Securely tighten all exhaust system connections. Move the exhaust system from side to side and check that it does not contact the vehicle body. If it does, replace the exhaust system rubber hangers.
