Releasing the Parking Brake

To release the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake), press the EPB switch under the following conditions:

• Place the Engine Start/Stop button in the ON position.
• Press the brake pedal.

Make sure the parking brake warning light turns off.

To release the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) automatically:

• Shift lever in P (Park) position

With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).

• Shift lever in N (Neutral) position

With the engine running, depress the brake pedal and shift from N (Neutral) to R (Reverse) or D (Drive).

• Satisfy the following conditions

1. Start the engine.

2. Fasten the driver's seat belt.

3. Close the driver's door, hood and trunk lid.

4. Depress the accelerator pedal when the shift lever is in D (Drive) or Sport mode.

Make sure the parking brake warning light turns off.

✽ NOTICE

• For your safety, you can apply the EPB even when the Engine Start/Stop button is in the OFF position, but you cannot release it.
• For safety, depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake manually with the EPB switch when driving down a slope or when backing up the vehicle.

CAUTION

• If the parking brake warning light remains on even though the EPB has been released, have your vehicle inspected at an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
• Do not drive the vehicle with the EPB applied. This may cause excessive brake pad and brake disc wear.

When the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) does not release:

Contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer, having the vehicle transported on a flatbed tow truck and the system inspected.

The EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) may be applied automatically when:

• The EPB overheats
• Requested by other systems
• The engine is turned off with the EPB applied

✽ NOTICE

If the driver turns off the engine while Auto Hold is operating, the EPB will be applied automatically. However, if you press the EPB switch within one second after the engine is turned off, the EPB will not be applied.
