Underbody Maintenance

~1min read

Corrosive materials used for de-icing and dust control can build up on the underbody. If these materials are not removed, accelerated rusting can occur on parts such as the fuel lines, frame, underside of the body and exhaust system, even if they have been treated with anti-rust protective material.

Thoroughly wash the underbody of the vehicle and the wheel wells with warm or cold water once a month, after off-road driving, and at the end of winter.

Pay particular attention to these areas, as it is difficult to detect all dirt and mud. Wetting road dirt without removing it makes the situation worse. The lower ends of the doors, the rocker panels and the frame parts have drain holes that must not be blocked by dirt. Water trapped in these areas can cause rust.

WARNING After washing the vehicle, test the brakes by driving slowly to see whether they have been affected by water. If braking performance is impaired, dry them by applying the brakes lightly while maintaining a low speed.
