Sport mode
Whether the vehicle is stopped or moving, you can select sport mode by moving the shift lever from D (Drive) to the manual shift gate.
To return to D (Drive) operating range, move the shift lever back to the main gate.
In sport mode, you can push the shift lever forward and backward to select the gear range suited to the current driving conditions.
+ (Up): Push the lever forward to upshift one gear.
- (Down): Pull the lever back to downshift one gear.
NOTE
- Only the four forward gears can be selected. To reverse or park the vehicle, move the shift lever to the required R (Reverse) or P (Park) position.
- Downshifting occurs automatically when the vehicle decelerates.
When the vehicle stops, 1st gear is automatically selected.
- When the engine tachometer approaches the red zone, the transmission automatically upshifts.
- If the driver pushes the lever to + (Up) or - (Down), the transmission may not shift to the requested gear if the next gear is outside the permitted engine rpm range. The driver must upshift or downshift according to road conditions, taking care to keep engine rpm below the red zone.
- When driving on a slippery road, push the shift lever forward to the + (Up) position.
This puts the transmission in 2nd gear, which is better for smooth driving on a slippery road. Push the shift lever to the - (Down) position to return to 1st gear.
Shift lock system
For passenger safety, the automatic transmission has a shift lock system that prevents shifting from P (Park) to R (Reverse) unless the brake pedal is pressed.
To shift from P (Park) to R (Reverse):
1. Keep the brake pedal pressed.
2. Press the shift button.
3. Move the shift lever.
