WARNING

To avoid SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH to yourself or others, always observe these precautions when working near or handling the battery:

Hyundai i30. Battery

Always read and follow the instructions carefully when handling the battery.

Hyundai i30. Battery

Wear eye protection designed to protect the eyes from acid splashes.

Hyundai i30. Battery

Keep all flames, sparks, or smoking materials away from the battery.

Hyundai i30. Battery

Hydrogen is always present in batteries, is easily ignited, and may explode if ignited.

Hyundai i30. Battery

Keep batteries out of the reach of children.

Hyundai i30. Battery

Batteries contain sulfuric acid, which is highly corrosive. Do not allow acid to contact your eyes, skin, or clothing.

If acid gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately. If acid contacts your skin, wash the area thoroughly. If you feel pain or a burning sensation, seek medical attention immediately.

  • When lifting a plastic battery case, excessive pressure on the case may cause battery acid to leak. Lift the battery with a battery carrier or with your hands on opposite corners.
  • Do not attempt to jump start your vehicle if the battery is frozen.
  • NEVER attempt to recharge the battery while the vehicle battery cables are connected to the battery.
  • The electrical ignition system operates at high voltage. NEVER touch these components with the engine running or when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

NOTICE

  • When you do not use the vehicle for a long time in a low-temperature area, disconnect the battery and store it indoors.
  • Always fully charge the battery to prevent damage to the battery case in areas with low temperatures.

NOTICE

If you connect unauthorized electronic devices to the battery, the battery may discharge. Never use unauthorized devices.

For Better Battery Care

Hyundai i30. Battery
  • Keep the battery securely mounted.
  • Keep the top of the battery clean and dry.
  • Keep terminals and connections clean, tight, and coated with petroleum jelly or grease.
  • Immediately wash off spilled electrolyte from the battery with a solution of water and baking soda.
  • If the vehicle will not be used for an extended period, disconnect the battery cables.

Battery Capacity Label

Hyundai i30. Battery

The actual battery label on the vehicle may differ from the illustration.

1. CMF60L-BCI: Hyundai battery model name

2. 12 V: Nominal voltage

3. 60 Ah (20HR): Rated capacity (in ampere-hours)

4. 92RC: Reserve capacity rating (minutes)

5. 550CCA: Cold cranking amperes per SAE

6. 440A: Cold cranking amperes per EN

Battery Charging

Using a Battery Charger

Your vehicle has a maintenance-free, calcium-based battery.

  • If the battery has been discharged in a short time (for example, the headlights or interior lights were left on while the vehicle was not in use), recharge it with a slow charge (trickle charge) for 10 hours.
  • If the battery gradually discharges due to high electrical load while the vehicle is in use, charge it at 20-30 A for two hours.

WARNING

Always follow these instructions when charging your vehicle battery to avoid the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH from explosion or acid burns:

  • Before performing maintenance or charging the battery, turn off all accessories and place the engine start/stop button in the OFF position.
  • Keep all flames, sparks, or smoking materials away from the battery.
  • Always work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear safety glasses when checking the battery during charging.
  • The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
  • Monitor the battery during charging, and stop or reduce the charging rate if the battery cells begin to boil violently.
  • The negative battery cable must be removed first and installed last when disconnecting the battery. Disconnect the charger in the following order:
    (1) Turn off the charger main switch.
    (2) Disconnect the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal.
    (3) Disconnect the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal.
  • Always use the original approved battery when replacing the battery.

CAUTION

AGM Battery (if equipped)

  • Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are maintenance-free. We recommend that AGM battery service be performed by an authorized HYUNDAI repairer. To charge your AGM battery, use only fully automatic chargers specifically designed for AGM batteries.
  • When replacing an AGM battery, we recommend using replacement parts from an authorized HYUNDAI repairer.
  • Do not open or remove the cap on top of the battery. This may cause internal electrolyte to leak, which may result in serious injury.

Jump Starting

After starting from a good battery, drive the vehicle for 20-30 minutes before turning it off. The vehicle may not restart if you turn it off before the battery has been adequately recharged. See "Jump Starting" in Chapter 6 for more information on jump starting procedures.

Information

Improper battery disposal may be harmful to the environment and human health.

Dispose of the battery in accordance with your local laws and regulations.

The following items may require resetting after the battery has discharged or been disconnected.

  • Power Window Up/Down
  • Sunroof
  • Trip Computer
  • Climate Control System
  • Driver's Position Memory System
  • Clock
