Vehicle-to-vehicle distance sensor

Smart Cruise Control uses a vehicle-to-vehicle distance sensor to detect the vehicle ahead.

Warning Message

Hyundai i30. the vehicle ahead

SCC (Smart Cruise Control) is turned off. Radar is blocked

When the radar sensor cover is covered with dirt, snow, or debris, the Smart Cruise Control system may temporarily stop operating. If this happens, a warning message will appear on the LCD. Remove any dirt, snow, or debris and clean the radar sensor cover before operating the Smart Cruise Control system.

The Smart Cruise Control system may not activate properly if the radar is fully obstructed, or if an object is not detected after the engine is turned ON (for example, in an open area).

Information

Since SCC operation temporarily stops if the radar is blocked, but you want to use cruise control mode (speed control function), you must switch to cruise control mode (refer to "To Change the Control Mode" on the next page).

CAUTION

  • Do not attach license plate frames or foreign objects, such as bumper stickers or bumper guards, near the radar sensor. This may adversely affect the radar sensor's detection performance.
  • Always keep the radar sensor and sensor cover clean and free of dirt and debris.
  • Use only a soft cloth to wash the vehicle. Do not spray water directly onto the sensor or sensor cover under high pressure.
  • Be careful not to apply unnecessary force to the radar sensor or sensor cover. If the sensor is forcibly moved out of proper alignment, the Smart Cruise Control system may not operate properly. In this case, a warning message may appear or may not be displayed. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • If the front bumper is damaged in the area of the radar sensor, the Smart Cruise Control system may not operate properly. We recommend that you have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Use only genuine parts to repair or replace a damaged sensor or sensor cover. Do not paint the sensor cover.

Check the SCC (Smart Cruise Control) system
