Using ESC
Activating ESC
When the ignition is in the ON position, the ESC and ESC OFF indicator lights illuminate for approximately 3 seconds, then turn off. After this, ESC is activated.
During operation

When ESC is operating, the corresponding indicator flashes:
- When braking under conditions that may cause the wheels to lock, you may hear brake noise or feel vibration in the brake pedal. This behavior is normal and indicates that your ESC is activated.
- When ESC is on, the engine may not respond to throttle input as it does under normal conditions.
- If cruise control is activated while ESC is on, it will be cancelled automatically. You can turn it on again when road conditions allow. See "Cruise Control" later in this chapter (if equipped).
- When driving out of mud or on a slippery road, engine speed (rpm) may not increase even if you fully depress the accelerator pedal. This is normal behavior designed to maintain vehicle stability and traction.
Turning ESC Off

To cancel ESC operation:
• Stage 1

Briefly press the ESC OFF button (the ESC OFF indicator light illuminates and a message appears). In this state, engine control is inactive. The brake control system operates, but the traction control system is not active.
• Stage 2

Press and hold the ESC OFF button for more than 3 seconds. The ESC OFF indicator light comes on, a message is displayed, and the ESC OFF warning chime sounds. In this state, engine speed control and brake control are not active. The vehicle stability control function is no longer active.
If the ignition is turned to the LOCK/OFF position while ESC is turned off, ESC remains off. ESC is automatically reactivated when the engine is restarted.
