Radial Tires

~1min read

Radial-ply tires provide improved tread life, resistance to road hazards, and a smoother ride at highway speeds. The radial tires used on this vehicle have a belted construction and were selected to complement the ride and handling characteristics of your vehicle. Radial tires have the same load capacity as bias-ply or belted-bias tires of the same size and use the same recommended inflation pressure. Mixing radial-ply tires with bias-ply or belted-bias tires is not recommended. Any combination of radial and bias-belted or bias-ply tires on the same vehicle will seriously degrade handling. It is best to follow the rule of using identical radial tires as a pair for the front and as a pair for the rear.

Tires with longer tread life may be more prone to uneven tread wear. It is very important to follow the tire rotation interval in this chapter to achieve maximum tread life from these tires. Cuts and punctures in radial tires can be repaired only in the tread area due to sidewall flexing. Consult your tire dealer for repair of radial tires.

WARNING

Never mix bias-ply and radial tires under any circumstances. This may result in unusual handling characteristics that can lead to loss of vehicle control and cause a collision.
