If the tire wears evenly, the tread wear indicator appears as a solid band across the tread. This indicates less than 1/16 in (1.6 mm) of tread remaining on the tire. Replace the tire when this occurs.

Do not wait until the indicator bands appear across the entire length of the tread before replacing the tire.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death:

  • Replace worn tires or tires showing uneven wear or damage. Worn tires may result in reduced braking performance, steering control, and traction.
  • Always replace tires with the same size as each tire originally supplied with this vehicle. Using tires and wheels other than the recommended sizes may cause unusual handling characteristics, poor vehicle handling, or adversely affect your vehicle's Anti-lock Brake System (ABS).
  • When replacing tires (or wheels), it is recommended to replace both front or both rear tires (or wheels) as a pair. Replacing only one tire may seriously affect vehicle handling.
  • Tires age over time, even when they are not in use. Regardless of remaining tread, HYUNDAI recommends that tires be replaced after six (6) years.
  • Driving in hot climates or excessive loading may accelerate the aging process of tires.

Compact Spare Tire Replacement (if equipped)

The compact spare tire has a shorter tread life than a standard-size tire. Replace it when you see the tread wear indicator bars on the tire. A replacement compact spare tire must be the same size and design as the tire supplied with your vehicle and must be installed on the same compact spare wheel. The compact spare wheel is not designed to be mounted on a standard-size wheel, and the compact spare wheel is not designed to be used with a standard-size tire.

WARNING

A standard-size tire should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to avoid failure of the spare and loss of vehicle control resulting in a collision.

The compact spare tire is intended for emergency use only. Do not drive your vehicle faster than 80 km/h when using the compact spare tire.
