Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure

~1min read

Check the pressure of all tires (including the spare) when the tires are cold. "Cold tires" means the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours or driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km).

Warm tires typically exceed the recommended cold tire pressure by 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa). Do not release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure. Tires that are under-inflated. For recommended tire pressures, see "Tires and Wheels" in Chapter 10.

WARNING

  • The recommended pressure must be maintained for better ride, vehicle handling, and minimum tire wear.
  • Over-inflation or under-inflation can shorten tire life, adversely affect vehicle handling, and lead to a sudden tire failure that may cause loss of vehicle control resulting in a collision.
  • Severe under-inflation can cause excessive heat build-up, leading to tire breakage, tread separation, and other tire failures that result in loss of vehicle control and a collision. This risk is much higher on hot days and when driving at high speeds for extended periods.
  • Under-inflation can cause excessive wear, poor handling, and reduced fuel economy. The wheel may also be damaged. Keep tire pressures at proper levels. If a tire frequently needs air, have it checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Over-inflation causes a harsh ride, excessive wear in the center of the tire tread, and greater susceptibility to road hazard damage.
