System Setting and Activation

~2min read

System Settings

The driver can activate FCA by turning the ignition switch to the ON position and selecting "User Settings," "Driver Assistance," and "Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist." FCA is deactivated when the driver cancels the system setting.

When FCA is turned off, a warning light illuminates on the LCD display. The driver can check the FCA ON/OFF status on the LCD display. In addition, the warning illuminates when ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is turned off ("Traction & Stability Control Off" is displayed). If the warning light remains illuminated while FCA is activated, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

The driver can select the timing of the initial Forward Collision Warning in User Settings on the LCD display of the instrument cluster. The initial Forward Collision Warning timing options are as follows:

  • EARLY – When this setting is selected, the initial forward collision warning is activated earlier than normal. This setting maximizes the distance between the vehicle and the vehicle or pedestrian ahead before the initial warning is given. If the "EARLY" setting seems too sensitive, change it to "NORMAL."
  • NORMAL – When this setting is selected, the initial forward collision warning is activated at the normal timing. This setting reduces the distance between the vehicle and the vehicle or pedestrian ahead before the initial warning is given, compared to the EARLY setting.
  • LATE – When this setting is selected, the initial forward collision warning is activated later than normal. This setting reduces the distance between the vehicle and the vehicle or pedestrian ahead before the initial warning is given. Select this setting only in slow-moving traffic and when driving slowly.

Activation Conditions

FCA is activated when FCA is selected on the LCD display and the following conditions are met:

- ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is activated.
- Vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h. (FCA operates only within a specific vehicle speed range.)
- FCA detects a vehicle or pedestrian ahead. (FCA cannot detect every obstacle or provide warnings and braking in every situation. Do not rely on FCA to stop the vehicle in situations where the driver can see obstacles and has the opportunity to apply the brakes.)

WARNING

To avoid distracting the driver, do not attempt to turn FCA on or off while driving the vehicle.

  • FCA is automatically activated when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. The driver can deactivate FCA by canceling the system setting on the LCD display.
  • FCA is automatically deactivated when ESC is turned off. When ESC is turned off, FCA cannot be activated on the LCD display. In this situation, the FCA warning light will illuminate.
