System Limitations
The FCA system is designed to monitor the vehicle or pedestrian ahead on the road through radar signals and camera recognition, to warn the driver when a collision is unavoidable, and to apply emergency braking if necessary. In certain situations, the radar sensor or camera may not be able to detect the vehicle or pedestrian ahead. In these cases, the FCA system may not operate. The driver must be attentive in the following situations, when FCA operation may be limited:
Vehicle Recognition
The sensor may be limited when:
- The radar or camera is contaminated with foreign substances.
- Heavy rain or snow.
- Electromagnetic interference is present.
- Something in the path of travel deflects the radar waves.
- The vehicle ahead has a narrow body (e.g., motorcycle or bicycle).
- The driver's view is unclear due to glare, reflected light, or darkness.
- The camera cannot capture the full image of the vehicle ahead.
- The vehicle ahead is a special vehicle, such as a heavily loaded truck or trailer.
- External brightness changes significantly, such as when entering or exiting a tunnel.
- The vehicle is driving on an uneven or bumpy road.
- Radar/camera sensor recognition is restricted.
- The vehicle ahead is moving erratically.
- The vehicle is driving near areas containing metal objects, such as construction zones, railroad tracks, etc.
- Moisture on the windshield is not completely removed or has frozen.
- Weather is foggy.
- The vehicle ahead does not have tail lights, has no tail lights, has asymmetric tail lights, or the tail lights are not angled.
- The vehicle is on an unpaved or uneven rough surface, or on a road with sharp gradient changes.
- The vehicle is driving underground or inside a building.
- When driving over a speed bump.
- When the vehicle is subjected to strong vibration.
- When driving through a roundabout with a vehicle or object ahead.
- If the front of the camera lens is contaminated by windshield tint, film, water-repellent coating, damage to the glass, or foreign objects (stickers, insects, etc.).
- The radar, camera, or camera lens is damaged.
- If the vehicle headlights are not used at night or in a tunnel section, or the light is too weak.
- If street lights or the lights of an oncoming vehicle are reflected, or when sunlight is reflected by water on the road surface.
- When tail light is projected in the direction of vehicle travel (including vehicle headlights).
- Road sign, road shadow, tunnel entrance, toll gate, partial coverage

- Driving on curves
FCA performance may be limited when driving on curves. FCA may not recognize a vehicle ahead even if it is in the same lane. This may cause the warning message and warning chime to activate early, or it may not activate the warning message and warning chime at all. When driving on curves, drive carefully, maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, press the brake pedal to reduce vehicle speed to keep a safe distance.

The FCA system may recognize a vehicle in an adjacent lane when driving on a curved road. In this case, the system may apply the brakes. Always pay attention to the road and driving conditions while driving. If necessary, press the brake pedal to reduce vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance. Also, if necessary, you may press the accelerator pedal to prevent unnecessary deceleration of your vehicle by the system. Always check the traffic conditions around the vehicle.

- Driving on slopes
FCA performance may be limited when driving uphill or downhill, and it may not recognize a vehicle ahead in the same lane. This may cause the warning message and warning chime to activate early, or it may not activate the warning message and warning chime at all.
When FCA suddenly recognizes a vehicle ahead while driving on a slope, you may experience sudden deceleration.
Always look ahead when driving uphill or downhill and, if necessary, press the brake pedal to reduce vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance.

- Lane change
When a vehicle changes lanes in front of you, the FCA system may not detect the vehicle immediately, especially if it changes lanes abruptly. In this case, maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, depress the brake pedal to reduce vehicle speed and maintain a safe distance.

When driving in stop-and-go traffic, or when a vehicle stopped ahead of you is merging out of your lane, the FCA system may not immediately detect the new vehicle ahead of you. In this case, maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, press the brake pedal to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance.

- Vehicle Recognition
If the vehicle ahead has cargo that extends beyond the rear of the cab, or if a vehicle with high ground clearance is ahead of you, additional special attention is required. The FCA system may not recognize cargo extending from the vehicle. In such cases, maintain a safe braking distance from the rearmost object and, if necessary, press the brake pedal to reduce vehicle speed to keep a safe distance.
Pedestrian Recognition
The sensor may be limited when:
- The pedestrian is not fully recognized by the camera recognition system, for example, if the pedestrian is leaning or is not standing fully upright
- The pedestrian is moving very fast or suddenly appears in the camera's field of view
- The pedestrian is wearing clothing that blends easily with the background, making it difficult to be detected by the camera recognition system
- External lighting is too bright (for example, when driving in bright sunlight or sun glare) or too dark (for example, when driving on a dark rural road at night)
- There is an object resembling the shape of a human body
- The pedestrian is small
- The pedestrian has limited mobility
- Sensor recognition is limited - It is difficult to detect and distinguish a pedestrian from other objects in the surroundings, for example, when there is a group of pedestrians or a large crowd
- When driving over a speed bump
- When the vehicle is subjected to strong vibration
- When driving through a roundabout
- If the front of the camera lens is contaminated by window tint, film, water-repellent coating, damage to the glass, or foreign objects (stickers, insects, etc.)
- The radar, camera, or camera lens is damaged.
- If the vehicle headlights are not used at night or in a tunnel section, or the light is too weak
- If the light from a street lamp or from an oncoming vehicle is reflected, or when sunlight is reflected by water on the road surface
- When backlight is projected in the direction of vehicle travel (including headlights of other vehicles)
- Road sign, shadow on the road, tunnel entrance, toll gate, partial road coverage
- If moisture on the windshield is not completely removed or has frozen
- Foggy weather
- Radar/camera sensor recognition is limited.
WARNING
FCA cannot avoid all collisions. FCA cannot completely stop the vehicle before a collision due to weather and road conditions. The driver is responsible for safe driving and operation of the vehicle.
WARNING
- Do not use the FCA system when towing a vehicle. Cancel FCA in User Settings on the LCD display before towing. Applying the FCA brake system during towing may adversely affect your safety.
- Exercise extreme caution if the vehicle ahead has a load extending rearward from the cab, or when the vehicle ahead has a high ground clearance.
- The FCA system is designed to detect and monitor the vehicle ahead or detect a pedestrian in the roadway using radar and camera recognition signals. It is not designed to detect bicycles, motorcycles, or small wheeled objects, such as luggage bags, shopping carts, or baby strollers.
✽ NOTICE
In some cases, the FCA system may be canceled due to electromagnetic interference.
• When replacing or reinstalling the windshield, front bumper, or radar/camera, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
