Starting system

Description and Operation

Description

The starting system consists of the battery, starter, magneto, ignition and the neutral safety switch (A/T) or clutch pedal switch (M/T), ignition key switch, connecting cables and battery cable.

When the ignition switch is turned to the "START" position, current flows and supplies power to the solenoid coil of the starter motor.

The pinion engagement plunger and shift lever are actuated, and the pinion gear engages with the ring gear.

The contacts close and the starter motor begins to rotate.

To prevent armature damage from excessive speed during cranking, a one-way clutch is installed to prevent the engine from overrunning the starter.
