Distance Sensor for Detecting the Vehicle Ahead (Radar Sensor)

~1min read

The sensor is used to maintain a specified distance to the vehicle ahead. However, contamination on the sensor lens, for example snow or rain, impairs detection performance and may even cause temporary deactivation of the FCA function. Always keep the sensor lens clean.

Warning Message and Warning Light

If the sensor cover or sensor lens is contaminated by foreign matter, such as snow or rain, the FCA function is temporarily unavailable. In this case, the driver is informed by a corresponding warning message.

This is not a malfunction of the FCA system. Remove the foreign matter so that the FCA system becomes functional again.

If the sensor is heavily contaminated or no object is detected (for example in open terrain), the FCA system may not function normally.

WARNING

  • Do not install accessories, such as license plate brackets or stickers, in the sensor area. Do not simply replace the bumper. This may change the characteristics of the sensor and impair its performance.
  • Always keep the sensor area around the bumper clean.
  • Use only soft cloths when washing the vehicle. Do not spray water at the sensor area on the bumper under high pressure.
  • Avoid unnecessary impact to the front sensor area. If the sensor is no longer in the correct position because it has been subjected to external forces, the system may not function properly, or the warning light or warning message may be activated. Have the vehicle inspected by a qualified workshop in this case. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer/service partner.
  • Use only the genuine Kia sensor cover. Do not apply paint to the sensor cover.
