How to free the vehicle

~1min read

If it is necessary to free the vehicle stuck in snow, sand, or mud, first turn the steering wheel right and left to clear the area around the front wheels. Then, repeatedly move the gear lever between 1st gear and R (Reverse) if the vehicle has a manual transmission, or between R (Reverse) and any forward gear if the vehicle has an automatic transmission. Do not apply sudden throttle and avoid wheel spin as much as possible. If the vehicle remains stuck after a few attempts, have it pulled out by towing it with another vehicle to prevent engine overheating and possible transmission damage.

WARNING Repeated back-and-forth rocking attempts can cause overheating, damage or failure of the transmission, and tire wear. CAUTION - Wheel spin Do not spin the wheels, especially at speeds above 56 km/h. Spinning the wheels very fast with the vehicle stationary can cause a tire to overheat and explode, resulting in physical injury to bystanders.

NOTE Turn off the ESC system (if equipped) before moving the vehicle.

CAUTION If the vehicle becomes stuck in mud, snow, sand, etc., you may try to free it by rocking it forward and backward.

Do not attempt this procedure if people or objects are near the vehicle. During the freeing operation, the vehicle may suddenly move forward or backward when it breaks free of the obstacle, resulting in personal injury or property damage.
