Driving in the rain

Rain and wet roads can make driving dangerous, especially if you are not prepared for slippery surfaces. Keep the following points in mind when driving in the rain:

  • Heavy rain will reduce visibility and increase braking distances, so reduce your speed.
  • Keep the wiper system in good condition. Replace the wiper blades when streaks form on the windshield or when areas are not wiped properly.
  • If the tires are not in good condition, braking abruptly on a wet surface may cause a skid and a possible accident. Make sure the tires are in good condition.
  • Turn on the headlights so that other vehicles can see you more easily.
  • Driving through large puddles at high speed can reduce braking efficiency. If you must drive through puddles, try to pass through them at reduced speed.
  • If you think the brakes have become wet, lightly press the pedal while driving until they return to normal braking performance.

Driving on flooded surfaces Avoid driving on flooded surfaces unless you are certain the water is not higher than the bottom of the wheel hub.

Drive slowly when crossing water. Maintain an adequate braking distance, as braking performance may be temporarily reduced.

After driving through water, dry the brakes by lightly pressing the pedal several times while driving slowly.

Off-road driving Use great caution on off-road trails to avoid damaging the vehicle on rocks or tree roots. Become familiar with the off-road trail before you attempt it.
