Checking the engine oil level

  1. Make sure the vehicle is on a level surface.
  2. Start the engine and wait until it reaches normal operating temperature.
  3. Switch off the engine and wait a few minutes (about 5 minutes) so the oil returns to the sump.
  4. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert it fully.
  5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the level. The level must be between F (Full) and L (Low).
WARNING - Radiator hose When checking or topping up the engine oil, take great care not to touch the radiator hose to avoid possible burns.

If it is close to L (Low), add oil up to the F (Full) level. Do not overfill.

Use a funnel to prevent oil from spilling into the engine compartment.

Use only the specified type of engine oil. (See "Recommended Lubricants and Capacities" in chapter 8.)

WARNING

  • Do not overfill with engine oil. The engine may be damaged.
  • Do not spill engine oil when adding or changing it. If engine oil falls into the engine compartment, remove it immediately.
  • Clean the dipstick with a clean cloth. If contaminated, it may cause engine damage.

Engine oil and oil filter replacement Have the engine oil and oil filter replaced by an Authorized Kia Dealer as specified in the Scheduled Maintenance at the beginning of this section.

WARNING Prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause skin irritation or skin cancer.

Used engine oil contains chemicals that have been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals. After handling used oil, protect your skin by washing your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap as soon as possible.
