Owner maintenance
The following list shows the checks and inspections on the vehicle that must be performed by the owner or by an authorized Kia dealer at the indicated intervals to help keep the vehicle in reliable and safe operating condition.
Any abnormal condition must be brought to the attention of your dealer as soon as possible.
Owner maintenance checks are generally not covered by warranty and involve costs for the parts, lubricants and labor used.
Scheduled owner maintenance
When refueling:
- Check the engine oil level.
- Check the coolant level in the expansion tank.
- Check the windshield washer fluid level.
- Check whether the tires are under-inflated or over-inflated.
- Check the radiator and condenser.
Check that the front of the radiator and the condenser are clean and free of leaves, dirt, insects, etc.
If any of the above items are dirty or if you are not sure of their condition, take the vehicle to your authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING Take care when checking the coolant level with the engine hot. The coolant is under pressure; boiling coolant and steam may be expelled with force, causing serious burns. While driving the vehicle:
- Notice any change in exhaust noise and any smell of exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment.
- Check for steering wheel vibration. Note any increase or decrease in the effort required to turn the steering wheel, or any change in its alignment position.
- Note if the vehicle tends to steer slightly or "pulls" to one side when driving on a smooth, level road.
- When braking, listen for and check for any abnormal noise, whether the vehicle pulls to one side, whether the pedal travel increases, or whether the pedal becomes harder to press.
- If you notice slipping or changes in transmission operation, check the transmission fluid level.
- Check the operation of the manual transmission, including the clutch.
- Check the operation of the P (Park) function of the automatic transmission.
- Check the parking brake.
- Check the underside of the vehicle for signs of leaks (water dripping from the air conditioner after use is normal).
At least once a month:
- Check the coolant level in the reserve tank.
- Check that all exterior lights work correctly, including brake lights, turn signals and hazard warning lights.
- Check the inflation pressure of all tires, including the spare tire.
At least twice a year: (i.e., every spring and autumn)
- Check the radiator, heater and air conditioner hoses for leaks or damage.
- Check the washer spray and the operation of the wipers. Clean the wiper blades with a cloth dampened with windshield washer fluid.
- Check the headlight aiming.
- Check the muffler, exhaust pipes and their clamps.
- Check the seat belts for wear and proper operation.
- Check the tires for wear and the wheel nuts for tightness.
At least once a year:
- Clean the door and body drain holes.
- Lubricate the door hinges and checkers and the hood hinges.
- Lubricate the door and hood locks and latches.
- Lubricate the rubber door weatherstrips.
- Check the air conditioning system before the summer season.
- Inspect and lubricate automatic transmission linkage and controls.
