All warning lights can be checked by turning the ignition switch to ON (without starting the engine). If a light does not come on, have it checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

After starting the engine, make sure all warning lights are off. If a light remains on, it indicates a condition that requires attention.

When the parking brake is released, the brake warning light should go off. The low fuel warning light remains on if the fuel level is low.

ECO indicator (if equipped) (Automatic transmission) The ECO indicator is a system that helps the driver drive the vehicle as economically as possible.

It is displayed to inform you that the driving style being used helps reduce fuel consumption.

  • The ECO indicator (green) comes on when the driving style being used helps reduce fuel consumption in ECO ON mode.

If you do not want the indicator to be displayed, turn off ECO ON mode by pressing the RESET button.

For operation of ECO ON/OFF mode, refer to the previous page.
  • Fuel consumption varies depending on driving habits and road conditions.
  • It does not operate when an economical driving style does not apply: P (Park), N (Neutral) and R (Reverse).
  • While the current fuel economy mode is displayed on the LCD screen, the ECO indicator goes off.
  • WARNING Do not look at the indicator while driving. It may distract the driver and cause an accident resulting in serious injury.

Airbag warning light (if equipped) This light comes on for about 6 seconds each time the ignition is turned on.

The light also comes on if there is a malfunction in the SRS system. If the AIRBAG warning lightdoes not come on when the ignition switch is turned to ON, does not go off after remaining on for about 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned on, or comes on while driving, have the SRS system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light (if equipped) The light comes on when the ignition key is turned to ON and goes off after about 3 seconds if the system is operating properly.

If the ABS warning light remains on, comes on while driving, or does not come on when the ignition switch is turned to ON, there may be a malfunction in the ABS system.

In this case, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible. The normal braking system will remain operational but without ABS assistance.

Electronic brake force distribution (EBD) warning light If two warning lights come on simultaneously while driving, there is a problem with the ABS and EBD system.

In this case, the ABS and the conventional braking system may not function properly. Have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

WARNING If the ABS and brake warning lights both remain on, the vehicle's braking system may not function properly during sudden braking. In this case, do not drive at high speed and avoid sudden braking. Have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Parking brake and brake fluid warning light

Parking brake warning light This light comes on when the parking brake is applied and the ignition switch is in the START or ON position. The light goes off when the parking brake is released with the engine running.

Low brake fluid warning light If the light remains on, the brake fluid level in the reservoir may be low.

    If the light remains on:

    1. Drive the vehicle to the nearest safe location and park it.
    2. With the engine off, immediately check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
Then check all brake components for fluid leaks.
  • Do not drive the vehicle if you notice any leaks, if the light remains on, or if the brakes do not operate properly. The vehicle must be towed to an authorized Kia dealer for inspection and necessary brake system repairs.
  • The vehicle is equipped with a split diagonal brake circuit system. This means that even if one of the two split circuits malfunctions, you still have brakes on two wheels. With only one efficient brake circuit, more pressure must be applied to the pedal, and its travel will also be greater. In addition, under these conditions the vehicle's stopping distance will be longer. If brake failure occurs while driving, downshift to obtain greater engine braking and stop the vehicle as soon as safe conditions allow.

To check the bulb operation, make sure the parking brake and brake fluid warning light comes on when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

WARNING - Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) warning light When both the ABS and parking brake/brake fluid warning lights are on, the braking system may not function properly, so an unexpected and dangerous situation may occur during sudden braking.

In this case, do not drive at high speed and avoid sudden braking.

It is recommended that the vehicle be checked by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Seat belt warning light (if equipped) To remind the driver to fasten the seat belt, each time the ignition switch is turned to ON the light flashes or stays on for about 6 seconds, regardless of whether the belt is fastened or not.

For more details, see "Seat Belts" in chapter 3.

Arrows The green arrows that flash on the instrument cluster show the direction of the turn signaled by the turn signal indicators. If the arrow stays on steadily, flashes too quickly, or does not light up at all, there is a fault in the turn signal system.

Contact your authorized Kia dealer for the necessary repairs.

High beam indicator This indicator comes on when the high beam headlights are on, or when the turn signal lever is pulled to the high beam flash position.

Position light indicator This indicator comes on when the position lights are on.

Front fog light indicator (if equipped) This indicator comes on when the front fog lights are on.

Rear fog light indicator (if equipped) This indicator comes on when the rear fog lights are on.

Low beam indicator (if equipped) This indicator comes on when the low beam headlights are on.

Engine oil pressure warning light This warning light indicates that the engine oil pressure is low.

If the warning light comes on while driving:

    1. Carefully pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and park it.
    2. With the engine off, check the engine oil level. If the level is low, add engine oil.

If the warning light remains on after adding oil, or if you do not have any oil, contact an authorized Kia dealer.

CAUTION If the engine is not stopped immediately after the engine oil pressure warning light comes on, serious damage may occur. CAUTION If the engine oil pressure warning light remains on while the engine is running, serious engine damage may occur. The light comes on when oil pressure is insufficient. Under normal conditions, it should come on when the ignition switch is turned on and go off when the engine starts. If the engine oil pressure warning light remains on while the engine is running, there is a serious malfunction.

If it is not possible to stop the vehicle safely, stop the engine and check the oil level. If the oil level is insufficient, add engine oil up to the specified level and restart the engine. If the warning light remains on while the engine is running, stop the engine immediately.

After each time the engine oil warning light comes on while driving, have the engine checked by an authorized Kia dealer before driving the vehicle again.

Charging system warning light This warning light indicates a malfunction in the alternator or the battery charging system.

If the warning light comes on while driving:

    1. Drive the vehicle to the nearest safe place.
    2. With the engine off, check whether the alternator drive belt is loose or broken.
    3. If the belt is correctly tensioned, the problem lies in the battery charging system.
Have the vehicle inspected and repaired by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Tailgate open warning light This warning light comes on when the tailgate is not closed.

Door open warning light This warning light comes on when a door is not properly closed.

    Immobilizer indicator (if equipped)

Without smart key system This indicator comes on when the key is inserted and turned to ON to start the engine.

At this point, the engine can be started.

Once the engine starts, the indicator goes off. If this indicator flashes when the ignition switch is in the ON position before starting the engine, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

With smart key system If the vehicle is equipped with a smart key and one of the following conditions occurs, the immobilizer indicator comes on, flashes, or goes off.

    • When the smart key is inside the vehicle, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ACC or ON position, the indicator lights up for about 30 seconds to show that the engine can be started.

However, when the smart key is not inside the vehicle, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is pressed, the indicator flashes for a few seconds to show that the engine cannot be started.

  • If the indicator light comes on for only 2 seconds and goes off when the ENGINE START/STOP button is set to ON with the smart key inside the vehicle, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.
  • When the battery is weak, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is pressed, the indicator flashes and the engine cannot be started.
  • However, you can start the engine by placing the smart key in the key holder. Also, if the smart key system has a problem, the indicator will flash.

Low fuel warning light This warning light indicates that the fuel tank is almost empty. When it comes on, refuel as soon as possible. Driving with the low fuel warning light on, or with the fuel level gauge needle below the "E" position, can cause misfiring that damages the catalytic converter.

Petrol indicator (if equipped) Refer to the LPG system in chapter 5.

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) (check engine light) This indicator is part of the engine control system, which monitors the various components of the emission control system. If this indicator comes on while driving, a problem related to the emission control system has been detected.

This indicator comes on when the ignition switch is turned to ON, and goes off a few seconds after the engine starts. If it comes on while driving, or does not come on when the ignition switch is turned to ON, take the vehicle to the nearest authorized Kia dealer and have the system checked.

In general the vehicle can still be driven, but it is advisable to have the system checked promptly by an authorised Kia dealer.

WARNING Prolonged driving with the emission control system malfunction indicator lamp on may damage related components, adversely affecting drivability and/or fuel economy. WARNING If the emission control system malfunction indicator lamp comes on, the catalytic converter may be damaged, resulting in a loss of power. Have the engine control system checked by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Engine coolant temperature warning light (if equipped) The warning light comes on if the engine coolant temperature exceeds 120±3 °C.

Do not continue driving if the engine is overheating. If the engine overheats, refer to "Overheating" in chapter 6.

NOTE If the engine coolant temperature warning light comes on, the temperature is high enough to damage the engine.

ESC (Electronic Stability Control) indicator (if equipped) The ESC indicator comes on when the ignition switch is turned to ON, and should go off after approximately 3 seconds. When the system is on, the ESC monitors driving conditions and, under normal conditions, the ESC indicator remains off. On slippery roads or when grip is low, the ESC intervenes and the indicator flashes to show that it is operating.

However, if the ESC system malfunctions, the indicator comes on and stays on. Have the vehicle checked by an authorised Kia dealer.

ESC OFF indicator (if equipped) The ESC OFF indicator comes on when the ignition switch is turned to ON, and should go off after approximately 3 seconds. To deactivate the ESC system, press the ESC OFF button. The ESC OFF indicator comes on to show that the ESC system has been switched off.

Electric power steering (EPS) warning light (if equipped) This warning light comes on when the ignition is switched on and then goes off.

This warning light also comes on if the EPS malfunctions. If it comes on while driving, have the vehicle checked by an authorised Kia dealer.

    Cruise control indicators (if equipped)

CRUISE indicator The indicator comes on when the cruise control systemis enabled by pressing the button on the steering wheel.

The indicator goes off the next time the button is pressedto deactivate the system.

Cruise control SET indicator The indicator comes on when the cruise control switch (-SET or RES+) is pressed.

For more details, refer to ISG (Idle Stop and Go) System at the beginning of chapter 5.

NOTE When the engine is restarted automatically by the ISG system, some warning lights (ABS, ESC, ESC OFF, EPS or parking brake warning light) may come on for a few seconds.

This is due to low battery charge. It does not mean that the related systems are malfunctioning.

Low tyre pressure warning light / TPMS malfunction indicator (if equipped) When the ignition is switched on, the low tyre pressure warning light comes on for 3 seconds. The low tyre pressure warning light comes on when the pressure of one or more tyres is insufficient.

The low tyre pressure warning light flashes for about one minute and then stays on when there is a fault in the tyre pressure monitoring system.

In this case, have the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

If the light comes on while driving, reduce speed immediately and stop the vehicle. Do not brake or steer abruptly. Inflate the tyres to the correct pressure indicated on the vehicle's tyre pressure label.

CAUTION - Underinflated tires Underinflated tires make the vehicle unstable and may cause loss of vehicle control and increase braking distances. Driving for extended periods with underinflated tires causes overheating and tire damage.

    WARNING - Safe braking

    • The TPMS cannot warn of serious and sudden tyre damage caused by external factors.
    • If the vehicle begins to feel unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, brake gradually using light pressure on the pedal, and slowly pull over to the side of the road in a safe place.

KEY OUT indicator (if equipped) When the ENGINE START/STOP button is in ACC or ON position, if any door is opened, the system checks where the smart key is. If the smart key is not inside the vehicle, the indicator flashes, and if all doors are closed, the buzzer sounds for about 5 seconds. The indicator goes off when the vehicle is driven. Keep the smart key inside the vehicle.

    Key reminder buzzer (if equipped)

Without smart key system If the driver's door is opened with the ignition key inserted in the ignition switch (LOCK or ACC position), the key reminder buzzer sounds. This prevents the keys from being locked inside the vehicle. The buzzer sounds until the key is removed from the ignition switch or the driver's door is closed.

With smart key system If the driver's door is opened with the smart key inside the vehicle and the ENGINE START/STOP button in ACC mode, the key reminder buzzer sounds.

The buzzer sounds until the door is closed.
