Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the roof trim assembly. (Refer to Body - "Roof Trim Assembly")
  3. Remove the window regulator (A) after loosening the mounting screws.
  4. Ground the terminals as specified in the table below, and check that the sunroof operates in accordance with the table below.
  5. Perform these input tests at the connector. If any test indicates a problem, locate and repair the cause, then recheck the system. If all input tests show that the sunroof motor is faulty, replace it.

Adjustment

Sunroof Reset. Whenever the vehicle battery is disconnected or discharged, or you use the emergency handle to operate the sunroof, you must reset the sunroof system as follows:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Depending on the sunroof position, do the following.
    1. If the sunroof is fully closed or tilted: Press the TILT button until the sunroof is fully raised.
    2. If the sunroof is open with the sliding mechanism: Press and hold the CLOSE button for more than 5 seconds until the sunroof is fully closed. Press the TILT button until the sunroof is fully raised.
  3. Release the TILT button.
  4. Press and hold the TILT button again until the sunroof returns to the initial TILT position after it has been raised, which is slightly higher than the maximum TILT position.
  5. The sunroof ECU determines the motor operating time.
  6. The motor can operate continuously during the 1st cycle.
  7. The motor that operates continuously stops after the 1st operation.
  8. Then the motor does not operate during the 1st cooling time.
  9. The motor operates during the 2nd operating time when operation continues after the 1st cooling time.
  10. The motor that operates continuously stops after the 2nd operation.
  11. The motor does not operate during the 2nd cooling time.
  12. The motor repeats the 2nd operating time and 2nd cooling time while motor operation continues.
    • If the motor does not operate continuously, the operating time limit for motor overheat protection is increased.
    • The motor operating time resets to "0" if the battery or fuse is reconnected after being disconnected, discharged, or blown.
  13. The sunroof ECU determines the motor operating time.
  14. The motor can operate continuously during the 1st cycle.
  15. The motor that operates continuously stops after the 1st operation.
  16. Then the motor does not operate during the 1st cooling time.
  17. The motor operates during the 2nd operating time when operation continues after the 1st cooling time.
  18. The motor that operates continuously stops after the 2nd operation.
  19. The motor does not operate during the 2nd cooling time.
    T1: 120 ± 10 s, T2: 18 ± 2 s, T3: 9 ± 2 s, T4: 18 ± 2 s.
When this is completed, the sunroof system is reset. Overheat Protection of Motor: To protect the sunroof motor from overheating with continuous motor operation, the sunroof ECU monitors the motor operating time and cooling time as follows: Overheat Protection of Motor: To protect the sunroof motor from overheating with continuous motor operation, the sunroof ECU monitors the motor operating time and cooling time as follows.
