Diesel Particulate Filter (SKYACTIV-D 1.5)
The Diesel Particulate Filter collects and removes most of the particulate matter (PM) from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine.
Particulate matter (PM) collected in the diesel particulate filter is burned off during normal driving. However, there may be cases where it is not burned off and the filter warning light comes on under the following conditions:
- If the vehicle is driven at a speed of 15 km/h or less for an extended period.
- If the vehicle is frequently used for short trips (trips lasting no more than 10 minutes) or when the engine is cold.
- When the engine idles for a long time.
CAUTION
The engine sound and exhaust odor may change when particulate matter is burned off while driving.
Diesel Particulate Filter Warning
When it is on
Particulate matter (PM) cannot be removed automatically, and the amount of accumulated particulate matter has reached a specified value.
Once the engine is sufficiently warm (engine coolant temperature of 80°C or more), press the accelerator pedal and drive the vehicle at a speed of 20 km/h or more for about 15 to 20 minutes to remove the particulate matter (PM).
When it is flashing
Contact a specialist workshop; we recommend a Mazda Authorized Dealer.
CAUTION
If you drive the vehicle with the diesel particulate filter warning light constantly on, the amount of particulate matter increases and the warning light may start flashing. If the diesel particulate filter warning light starts flashing, contact a specialist workshop; we recommend a Mazda Authorized Dealer.
If the vehicle is not inspected and continues to be driven, the engine may be damaged.
CAUTION
If the diesel particulate filter warning light is flashing, engine performance is limited to protect the filter.
