i-ELOOP System
The i-ELOOP system is a regenerative braking system. When you depress the brake pedal or use engine braking, the kinetic energy generated is converted into electrical energy by the generator, and the converted electrical energy is stored in the storage device. The stored electrical energy is used to charge the battery and the vehicle's electrical devices.
- A variable voltage alternator is built into the generator, which converts kinetic energy into electrical energy and can effectively generate electricity depending on the vehicle's driving conditions.
- A capacitor is built into the storage device used to store the generated electricity, and can continuously store a large amount of electricity for rapid use.
- The DC-DC converter, which is a component of this system, reduces the stored electrical energy to the voltage required by the vehicle's electrical devices.

CAUTION
High-current electricity flows through the following components, so do not touch them.
- Variable voltage alternator
- DC-DC converter
- Capacitor
CAUTION
Fuel consumption may vary depending on how the vehicle's electrical devices are used.
If it becomes necessary to dispose of the capacitor, always consult a specialist; we recommend a Mazda Authorized Service Center.

i-ELOOP System Indicator Light/Control Status Display
The driver is informed of the i-ELOOP power generation status and control level by the i-ELOOP indicator light (green) and the control status display.
i-ELOOP System Indicator Light (green) (vehicles without Type C/Type D audio system)
This light stays on
while power is being generated.
Control Status Display (vehicles with Type C/Type D audio system)
The power generation status of i-ELOOP is shown on the center display.
See "Control Status Display" on page 4-95.
