i-ACTIVSENSE

~2min read

i-ACTIVSENSE is a collective name for a group of advanced safety and driver-assistance systems that use detection devices such as the FSC camera and radar sensors. They include active safety systems and pre-collision safety systems.

These systems are designed to assist the driver in safe driving by reducing mental and physical workload, and to help avoid collisions or at least reduce their consequences. However, since every system has certain limitations, always drive carefully and do not rely solely on the systems.

Active Safety Technology

Active Safety Technology (Active Safety Technology) promotes safe driving by helping the driver recognize potential hazards and prevent accidents.

Active Safety Technology includes the systems listed below, which increase driver awareness and promote safe driving.

Driver Awareness Support Systems

Night Visibility

High Beam Control System (HBC)

Front/Rear Detection

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)

Blind Spot Monitoring system (BSM).

Rear Obstacle Detection when leaving a parking space

Rear Cross Traffic Alert system (RCTA)

Driver Assistance System

Adjustable Speed Limiter

Pre-Collision Safety Technology

Pre-collision safety technology is designed to assist the driver in preventing collisions (in situations where they can be avoided) or in reducing their consequences.

The following systems use pre-collision safety technology.

Collision Damage Mitigation at Low Vehicle Speeds

Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system, which helps prevent collisions at low speeds.

Detection Devices

FSC Camera

The FSC camera detects conditions ahead of the vehicle when driving at night and detects lane markings. The following systems also use the FSC camera:

  • High Beam Control System (HBC)
  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)

The FSC camera is installed in the upper part of the windshield, next to the rear view mirror.

See section "Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)" on page 4-134.

Laser Sensor

The laser sensor emits a near-infrared laser beam and receives the beam reflected from the surface of a vehicle or obstacle ahead. The detected beam is then used to take measurements. The laser sensor is used by the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system.

The laser sensor is installed in the upper part of the windshield, next to the rear view mirror.

See section "Laser Sensor" on page 4-136.

Rear Radar Sensors

Rear radar sensors work by detecting radio waves that are sent out by these sensors and reflected from an approaching vehicle behind or from an obstacle. Rear radar sensors are also used by the following systems:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring system (BSM)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert system (RCTA)

The rear radar sensors are installed inside the rear bumper, one on the right and one on the left side.

See section "Rear Radar Sensor" on page 4-138.
