  1. Summer tire tread patterns are designed to provide superior performance on dry roads. Snow and ice therefore greatly reduce their performance. If your vehicle is equipped with four-wheel drive, NISSAN recommends using MUD & SNOW tires or ALL SEASON tires if you must drive on snow-covered or icy roads. You can obtain information on tire types, sizes, speed ratings and availability from a NISSAN dealer.
  2. Studded tires may be used to improve traction on icy roads. However, the use of studded tires is prohibited in some U.S. states as well as in some Canadian provinces. Check the regulations in your area, in the state or province where you live, before installing this type of tire on your vehicle.

On dry or wet roads, the wheel slip and grip performance of studded winter tires may be lower than those of non-studded winter tires.

  1. You may also use tire chains. For more information, refer to the "Tire Chains" section in the "Maintenance and Do-it-yourself" chapter of this manual.
