Assistance is reduced when the steering wheel is used frequently or continuously for parking or low-speed driving. This is intended to prevent the power steering from overheating and to prevent damage.
When assistance is reduced, it becomes much harder to turn the steering wheel.
If the steering wheel continues to be used, the power steering may be disabled and the power steering warning light will come on. In a safe location, stop the engine and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. The power steering system temperature will drop after a while, and the power steering assistance level will return to normal after the engine is started. The warning light will go off. Avoid repeated steering maneuvers that could overheat the power steering.
You may hear a noise from the front of the vehicle when the steering wheel is turned.
This is a normal operating noise and does not indicate a malfunction.

When the power steering warning light comes on while the engine is running, steering assistance is lost, but you will still be able to control the vehicle. In this condition, more steering effort is required to turn the steering wheel, especially in sharp turns and at low speeds.
