AM Radio Reception

~1min read

Because of their low frequency, AM signals can travel around objects and bounce off the ground. In addition, signals bounce off the ionosphere and return to the earth. Because of these characteristics, AM signals are also subject to interference along their path from the transmitter to the receiver.

Signal fading: This occurs when the vehicle passes under an overpass or in areas with many tall buildings. It may also occur for several seconds due to ionospheric disturbances, even in areas without obstacles.

Noise: Noise is caused by thunderstorms, power lines, electric signs, and even traffic lights.
