Accelerator Cable

~1min read

Removal PROCEDURE 1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. 2. Remove the air filter (see subsection 3.1.2).

3. Disconnect the cable from the throttle lever of the carburetor. 4. Disconnect the cable housing from the bracket on the carburetor.

5. Unscrew the screws and remove the shelf under the instrument panel on the driver's side.

6. Disconnect the cable from the accelerator pedal. 7. Pull the cable with its housing out from the engine compartment side. Install the cable in the reverse order. When installing, make sure the cable is not twisted. Adjust the cable before installing the air filter. Adjustment Perform the adjustment with an assistant. Fully depress the accelerator pedal. In this position, check whether there is a gap between the throttle lever of the carburetor and the full-throttle stop. The gap must be at least 0.5 mm. If not, adjust the length of the accelerator cable. Depending on how the accelerator cable is secured, as shown in the figure, adjust it as follows. If the cable housing is secured in the bracket with two nuts, unscrew the nuts, move the cable to increase or decrease the gap, and tighten the nuts. If the end of the cable housing has a threaded sleeve screwed into the bracket and locked by a spring washer, remove the washer, adjust the cable length by screwing the sleeve in or out, and reinstall the spring washer. On some carburetors, loosen the accelerator cable clamp bolt on the throttle lever, turn the lever, and tighten the bolt.
