Carburetor Engine Fuel System

Thermostatic Valve Check

~1min read

PROCEDURE

Valve 13 (see figure Air Cleaner, engines with 1.1 and 1.3 L displacement) controls the thermostat valve flap. If the valve is faulty, the following may occur: engine stalling at idle during warm-up, hesitation during acceleration, insufficient engine power, increased fuel consumption. Check the valve with the engine cold. The thermostat valve flap should rotate freely, without sticking. PROCEDURE 1. Remove the air cleaner without disconnecting hoses 9 and 24. 2. Start the engine and let it idle. 3. Disconnect hose 24 from valve 13. The thermostat valve flap should shut off the flow of warm air. 4. Connect hose 24 to valve 13. The flap should rotate and open the flow of warm air. 5. Disconnect hose 24 from valve 13. The flap should rotate and shut off the flow of warm air. If this does not happen, the valve is faulty and must be replaced. On a warm engine, depending on the ambient air temperature, the flow of warm air may be shut off completely or partially.
