Alarm indicator. Alarm system - transponder key not working. Reduced alarm level
The alarm system of the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) protects the vehicle with audible and visual signals. This section describes the function of the alarm indicator and the automatic reactivation if the system is deactivated accidentally. Measures for key problems and notes on the reduced alarm level are also explained. This keeps the vehicle secure in different situations.
Alarm indication
The alarm indicator shows the status of the alarm system.

A red light-emitting diode on the instrument panel shows the status of the alarm system:
- The diode is off - the alarm system is deactivated
- The diode flashes every two seconds - the alarm system is activated
- After the alarm system is deactivated, the diode flashes rapidly (until the transponder key is inserted into the ignition lock and ignition position I is reached) - the alarm system was triggered.
Alarm - automatic reactivation
The automatic reactivation of the alarm system prevents it from remaining accidentally deactivated when you leave the vehicle.
If the vehicle has been unlocked with the transponder key (and the alarm system has been deactivated), but none of the doors or the tailgate has been opened within 2 minutes, the alarm system is automatically reactivated. At the same time, the vehicle is locked again.

Alarm system - transponder key not working
If the alarm system cannot be switched off with the transponder key, for example because the battery in the key is depleted, the vehicle can be unlocked, the vehicle alarm system deactivated and the engine started as follows:
- Open the driver's door using the removable key blade.
> The alarm system is triggered, the alarm indicator flashes rapidly and the siren sounds.

- Insert the transponder key into the ignition lock.
> The alarm system is deactivated and the alarm indicator goes out.
- Start the engine.
Alarm signals
When the alarm system is triggered, a siren sounds and all turn signals flash.
- A siren sounds for 30 seconds or until the alarm system is switched off.
The siren has its own battery and works independently of the starter battery.
- All turn signals flash for 5 minutes or until the alarm system is switched off.
Reduced alarm level
Reduced protection (reduced alarm level) means that the motion and tilt sensors can be switched off temporarily.
Temporarily switch off the motion and tilt sensors to prevent the alarm from being triggered accidentally, for example when a dog is left in the locked vehicle or when the vehicle is on a car transporter or ferry.
The procedure is the same as for temporarily deactivating the safety locking 9.

The alarm indicator of the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) reliably shows the status of the alarm system. Whether armed, disarmed or triggered, a glance at the light-emitting diode is enough to recognize the current state.
The reduced alarm level allows the protection to be adjusted specifically, for example when travelling with pets or on ferries. This keeps the system flexible and secure at the same time.
