The locking and unlocking functions of Keyless Drive in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) provide convenience at the push of a button. This section describes operation via the door handles, unlocking with the key blade, and antenna placement for optimal function. Special safety aspects, such as the risk of being locked in or triggering the alarm system, are also covered. Tips on individually configuring the unlocking sequences help adapt the system to personal needs.

Keyless Drive* - locking

Vehicles equipped with Keyless Drive have a button on the exterior door handle for locking/unlocking.

Lock the doors and the tailgate.

To do so, press the lock button on one of the exterior door handles.

All doors and the tailgate must be closed before the vehicle can be locked. Otherwise, the vehicle will not lock.

CAUTION

On a vehicle with automatic transmission, the selector lever must be moved to the P position, because otherwise the vehicle can be neither locked nor secured by the alarm system.

Keyless Drive* - unlocking with the key blade

If the central locking cannot be unlocked with the transponder key, e.g. because the batteries are flat, the driver's door can be opened with the removable key blade.

Loch für das Schlüsselblatt - zum Lösen der Verkleidung.
Hole for the key blade - for releasing the trim.

To reach the lock cylinder, the plastic trim must be removed. The key blade is also used for this:

  1. Press the key blade approx. 1 cm straight up into the opening on the underside of the door handle/trim. Do not pry.

    > The plastic trim releases automatically when the blade is pressed straight up into the opening.

  2. Then insert the key blade into the lock cylinder and unlock the door.
  3. After unlocking, refit the plastic trim.
CAUTION

When the driver's door is unlocked with the key blade and the door is opened, the alarm system is triggered. To switch it off, insert the PCC into the ignition lock, see Alarm system - transponder key does not work.

Locking/unlocking - from outside

Locking/unlocking from outside is done with the transponder key. All doors and the tailgate can be locked/unlocked at the same time with the transponder key.

Different unlocking sequences can be selected, see Transponder key - functions.

For the locking sequence to be activated, the driver's door must be closed. If one of the other doors or the tailgate is open, they will only be locked and the alarm system activated after they have been closed. On vehicles with keyless locking system*, all doors and the tailgate must be closed.

CAUTION

Be aware of the risk of locking the transponder key inside the vehicle.

If locking/unlocking with the transponder key does not work, its battery may be depleted. In this case, lock or unlock the driver's door with the removable key blade, see Removable key blade - removing/fitting.

CAUTION

Please note that the alarm is triggered when the door is opened after it has been unlocked with the key blade. The alarm system is switched off by inserting the transponder key into the ignition lock.

WARNING

Please note that you can be locked inside the vehicle if it is locked from outside with the transponder key. After this, no door can be opened from inside with the door handles.

For more information, see Safety locking.

Automatic Relocking

If none of the doors or the tailgate are opened within two minutes of unlocking, all locks will automatically lock again.

This function reduces the risk of the vehicle accidentally remaining unlocked (for vehicles with an alarm system, see Alarm system)
