The locking and unlocking indication of the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) informs the driver of the current vehicle status by means of flashing signals. This section also explains the function of the electronic immobilizer and the role of the transponder key in theft protection. In addition, the range of the key and the panic function are described to make use even safer. Tips on adjusting the settings in the MY CAR menu help you tune the system to your individual needs.

Locking/unlocking indication

When the vehicle is locked or unlocked with the transponder key, the vehicle's turn signals flash to confirm that locking/unlocking was carried out correctly.

• Locking - one flash of the turn signals, and the exterior mirrors fold in3.
• Unlocking - two flashes of the turn signals, and the exterior mirrors unfold3.

When locking, the indication only occurs if all locks have engaged after the doors have been closed.

Electronic immobilizer

The electronic immobilizer is an anti-theft system that prevents the vehicle from being started by an unauthorized person.

Each transponder key has a unique code. The vehicle can only be started with the correct transponder key carrying the correct code.

Remote immobilizer with tracking system*

The remote immobilizer with tracking system4 allows the vehicle to be located and monitored, and the immobilizer to be activated remotely, thereby switching off the engine.

Locking - Locks the doors and tailgate and simultaneously activates the alarm system.

Press and hold to close all windows and the sunroof* at the same time.

WARNING

If the sunroof and windows are closed with the transponder key, make sure that nobody's hand gets trapped.

Unlock - Unlocks the doors and trunk lid and deactivates the alarm system at the same time.

Press and hold to open all windows at the same time. For more information, see Ventilation function .

The function can be changed from unlocking all doors at once to unlocking the driver's door with one button press and the remaining doors with a further button press (within ten seconds).

Automatic lighting - Used to switch on the vehicle lights from a distance. For more information, see Automatic lighting.

Trunk lid - Unlocks the trunk lid and deactivates the alarm system only at the trunk lid.

Panic function - Use this in an emergency to attract the attention of people nearby.

If the button is pressed for at least 3 seconds, or twice within 3 seconds, the turn signals and horn are activated.

This function can be deactivated with the same button once it has been active for at least 5 seconds. Otherwise, it switches off after approx. 3 minutes.

Transponder key - range

The functions of the transponder key (basic version) have a range of approx. 20 meters from the vehicle.

If the vehicle does not confirm a button press, move closer to the vehicle and try again.

CAUTION

Transponder key functions may be disturbed by radio waves, buildings, topography, etc.

The vehicle can always be locked/unlocked with the key blade.

If the transponder key is removed from the vehicle with the engine running, ignition position I or II, and all doors are closed, a warning message appears in the information display of the instrument cluster. An audible signal also sounds.

After the transponder key is returned to the vehicle, the message goes out and the audible signal stops when one of the following conditions is met:

• or the transponder key has been inserted into the ignition lock.
• the speed exceeds 30 km/h.
• the OK button has been pressed.

A warning appears in the display and a signal sounds. Return the key to the vehicle to clear the warning.
