Interior Light
The festoon bulb (10 W, length 41 mm, DIN form K) must light when the doors are open and the switch is in the appropriate position. It receives constant power.
PROCEDURE
Remove the interior light fuse, otherwise there is a high risk of short circuit.
Carefully press the retaining spring opposite the rotary switch toward the center of the lamp and pull the lamp out of the recess in the ceiling.
On vehicles with a sliding roof, the interior light is smaller. Removal: Pry the light housing on the side opposite the switch and remove it from the ceiling recess. For this you will need either a long strong fingernail, a wide screwdriver, or the flat handle of a spoon.
During installation, first insert the side with the switch into the ceiling recess.
Door Courtesy Light Switch
If the interior light does not come on, despite the switch being in the correct position and the door being open, check the corresponding door switch. It connects the interior light bulb, which is permanently live, to ground (body), thereby closing the electrical circuit so the light can come on. Switch malfunctions are possible if:
PROCEDURE
The switch button is jammed in its guide or bent – replace the switch.
The wire terminal has come off the switch – slightly bend the connector for better contact and reconnect it.
The contact surface between the switch and the mounting bolt, or the plug connection, has corroded. Clean the corroded layer off with sandpaper or a screwdriver with sharp edges.
The door switch is secured to the door pillar by only one Phillips-head screw. Removal: remove the rubber cover, unscrew the bolt and pull out the switch.
Interior Light with Delayed Switch-Off
The interior light works together with the central locking system through a special module as follows (see the Equipment and Auxiliary Devices chapter):
After the door is closed, the light stays on for approximately 30 s, if the clutch was not engaged or the central locking did not activate.
If the door remains open for more than 4 min, the interior light switches off.
The interior light goes off after the ignition is switched off.
Reading Light
PROCEDURE
Pull the handle back and remove the two Phillips-head screws.
Pry off the plastic cover of the coat hook with a screwdriver and remove the Phillips-head screw located underneath it.
Remove the handle and the light.
Replace the bulb (5 W).
Luggage Compartment Light
The luggage compartment light lamp (festoon bulb 5 W, length 36 mm, DIN form L) is recessed in the body cross panel under the rear window.
PROCEDURE
Remove the trunk lid or the tailgate.
Insert a screwdriver into the recess on the side of the light housing, carefully pry it out and remove the light.
After replacing the bulb, reinstall the light housing, wire side first.
