Retrofitting Fog Lamps

~1min read

Models with 4- and 5-cylinder engines

Aftermarket fog lamps do not fit well on the streamlined body of the Audi 80, and they are difficult to mount securely in the correct positions. Therefore, original fog lamps must be installed, which means the bumper panel must be replaced with one having openings for fog lamp installation. Additionally, you will need a fog lamp relay and an original switch for the instrument panel. A narrower switch panel shelf (also an original part) may need to be installed next to the switch panel. Proceed as follows:

PROCEDURE

Remove the front bumper panels (see chapter Body Elements).

The connector plugs of the pre-routed wiring harness are located at the bottom of the fog lamp opening.

Connect the wiring and insert the fog lamps.

Install the front panels with the fog lamp openings.

In the central junction box, replace the wire jumper in the relay 1 plug socket with the fog lamp relay.

Replace the blanking plug in the instrument panel with the original fog lamp switch (see chapter Instruments and Auxiliary Devices).

A narrower shelf may be required, depending on the number of switches already installed.

A wire must still be run from the switch to the plug station (on the auxiliary relay block to the left under the instrument panel). If in doubt about the wire color, refer to the Wiring Diagrams section.

Switch on. Check operation together with the parking, low beam or high beam lights. Done.
