Replacing Rear Light Bulbs

Remove the socket (1) after releasing the rotating latch (arrow).

The headlight socket (2) is separated from the headlight housing (1).

The reversing light switch (arrow) is located on the upper side of the transmission. This illustration shows the view through the gap between the engine and the rear wall of the engine compartment.

Luggage Compartment Lid Light:
1 – mounting hole in the light housing;
2 – bulb socket;
3 – bulb.
PROCEDURE
Exterior rear lights: Turn the rotating latch to the left and remove the socket.
Luggage compartment lid lights: First disconnect the lid.
Turn the bulb socket approximately 30° to the left (counterclockwise) and pull it out.
Bulbs are replaced in the same way in all cases: press the bulb slightly into its socket, turn it to the left and remove it.
When installing the dual-filament bulb for the brake light and tail light, note that its side mounting pins are at different heights. Because of this, the bulb can be inserted without force in only one specific position.
Removal
PROCEDURE
Exterior rear lights: Remove the bulb socket (see previous section).
Remove the luggage compartment trim in the area of the rear lights.
Unscrew the four hex nuts from the luggage compartment side.
Remove the light housings from the outside. If it is stuck to the body because of the sealing cord, pry it up with a screwdriver wrapped in a cloth.
Individual lights on the luggage compartment lid: Remove the bulb socket(s) (see previous section).
Remove the lock element on the right rear light by loosening the two hex bolts.
Unscrew a total of four hex nuts from the inside of the lid.
These rear lights may also stick to the body because of the sealing cord – pry with a screwdriver.
A new sealing cord must be used during installation.
Light strip on the luggage compartment lid: Proceed in the same way as when removing individual lights, except that more bolts must be disconnected.
