Main Headlight and High Beam Bulbs

The illustration shows both covers (6) removed on the model with the 6-cylinder engine, to access the main headlight bulb (3) and the high beam bulb (1). The numbers denote: 2 – connector plug for all bulbs; 4 – headlight level adjustment motor; 5 – parking light bulb holder.

All headlight bulbs are removed from the engine compartment side. Before replacing the bulbs, the following preparatory work is required:

PROCEDURE

Preparation: depending on the engine fitted, first disconnect the rubber grommet on the right headlight unit, press both retaining clips rearward and pull the center part of the cover upward (where fitted, the air intake hose must also be removed). On the model with the 6-cylinder engine, remove the battery cover at the left headlight; on the model with the 5-cylinder engine, remove the radiator grille.

On models with 4- and 5-cylinder engines, turn the headlight cover in the engine compartment counterclockwise and remove it.

On models with 6-cylinder engines, the main headlight and high beam bulbs are located behind separate covers secured by wire clips. Press the clip out of the slot.

In general, it should be noted that some headlight bulbs are very difficult to access. If you do not have nimble fingers, remove the entire headlight.

Bulb replacement: disconnect the wire connector.

Squeeze the spring retaining clips at the bulb mount and swing them open.

Pull out the bulb.

Install the new main headlight bulb so that the three contact tabs form a downward-opening letter «П» (the three tabs must face down).

Install the high beam bulb (models with the 6-cylinder engine) so that the base fits exactly into the recess in the bulb socket.

PROCEDURE

Preparation as described in the previous section.

Models with 4- and 5-cylinder engines: pull the parking light bulb holder out of the reflector.

Models with 6-cylinder engines: loosen the holder by turning it counterclockwise.

Lightly press the miniature bulb into the holder, turn counterclockwise, and remove.
