Separating the main and auxiliary mufflers

All-wheel drive models only
On original exhaust systems of Audi all-wheel drive models, both mufflers are joined by a single continuous pipe. To replace only one muffler, this pipe must be cut.

PROCEDURE

Dimension a = 300 mm indicates the point at which the main and auxiliary mufflers of the all-wheel drive exhaust system are to be separated.

To avoid any doubt about where to cut, the illustration above shows dimension a = 300 mm.

Cut the pipe with a pipe cutter, at a right angle where possible.

Due to limited space under the vehicle, it is almost impossible to cut while the mufflers are still installed. It is better to remove both mufflers together.

Even if both mufflers need to be replaced, you will receive both mufflers as separate spare parts.

In this case they will be connected by a double pipe clamp (also available as a spare part), as described above. Bolt tightening torque: 25 N·m.
