Workshops prefer to replace the entire system at once. We cannot recommend this without inspection, because all parts of the Audi exhaust system can be purchased separately – even the main and auxiliary mufflers of quattro models, which in the original are a single part. Therefore, a separate pipe section or muffler can be removed without great effort. So first inspect, and only then replace.


PROCEDURE

Tap the good mufflers with a hammer over the entire surface, including the end faces. Do not be too timid.

If each blow produces a clear ringing sound, the muffler metal is still sound.

If the sound becomes duller in some places, the outer shell is already weakened and holes will soon develop; this is especially true in cold weather, when salt is used on the roads.

When buying parts, do not forget that sealing gaskets and self-locking nuts must be replaced with new ones.
