Exhaust System

Assembling the exhaust system

~1min read

An exhaust system installed at an angle may cause unpleasant loud low-frequency noise. Therefore:

PROCEDURE

Before tightening the connections, suspend the exhaust system freely from its mounting hangers and align it:
All components must be at a distance from the body.

The tailpipe must have an equal distance from the cutout in the bumper all around.

Tighten the mounting on the transmission without stress to 25 N·m. Make sure the sleeve and spring are installed correctly.

Preloading the exhaust system to compensate for deformation at elevated temperature: on all-wheel drive models, the rear mounting loop on the main muffler must have a preload of 7 – 10 mm (illustrations below); on front-wheel drive models, the rear exhaust pipe suspension bolt must protrude 10 mm from the rubber.

Turn the safety lugs of the retaining rings – the protruding ends of the fasteners – by approximately 90°. Make sure the mounting is not pinched in the process.

Finally, tighten all exhaust system connections, starting at the front. Tightening torques are described in the previous paragraph.

Right: on all-wheel drive models, the rear mounting loop on the main muffler must have a preload dimension a = 7 – 10 mm.
