Airbags
General information
This system is designed to enhance the safety of occupants in the front seats and outboard rear seats in the event of a severe collision. The airbags supplement the action of the seat belts, which are fitted with force limiters.
Electronic sensors record and analyse frontal and side impacts within the impact detection zones:
- In the event of a severe impact, the airbags deploy instantly and help better protect the vehicle occupants; immediately after the impact, the airbags deflate rapidly so as not to obstruct visibility or the occupants' exit from the vehicle.
- In the event of a minor impact, a rear impact or, under certain rollover conditions, the airbags may not deploy; in these situations, only the seat belt contributes to your protection.
The severity of an impact depends on the type of obstacle and the vehicle speed at the time of the collision.
The airbags do not operate when the ignition is off.
This device deploys only once. If a second impact occurs (in the same accident or another accident), the airbag will no longer deploy.
Impact detection zones

- Frontal impact zone
- Side impact zone
Deployment of one or more airbags is accompanied by a slight release of smoke and a noise, due to activation of the pyrotechnic cartridge built into the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but may irritate sensitive people.
The noise of the explosion caused by deployment of one or more airbags may cause a slight temporary loss of hearing.
