Hill Assist Descent Control

~3min read

Descent assistance system for medium to steep slopes, on paved or unpaved roads (e.g. gravel, mud).

This system reduces the risk of the vehicle slipping or running away when driving downhill, in both forward and reverse.

When going downhill, the system assists the driver in maintaining a constant speed, depending on the gear selected, while gradually releasing the brakes.

For the system to activate, the slope must be greater than 5 %.

The system can be used with the gearbox in neutral.

Otherwise, engage a gear suited to the speed to prevent the engine from stalling.

With an automatic gearbox, the system can be used with the selector in N, D or R.

When this system takes control, Active Safety Brake is automatically deactivated.

The system is no longer available if the vehicle speed is:

- Above 70 km/h.

- Controlled by Adaptive Cruise Control, depending on the type of gearbox.

Operation

On

By default, the system is not selected.

The system status is not stored when the ignition is switched off.

The driver can select the system with the engine running, with the vehicle stationary or moving at up to approximately 50 km/h.

Sécurité

With analogue dials instrument cluster

► To select the system, at a speed below 50 km/h, press this button until its indicator lights up; this warning lamp appears green in the instrument cluster.

The system becomes active at a speed below 30 km/h.

With digital instrument cluster

► To select the system, at a speed below 50 km/h, press this button until its green indicator lights up; this warning lamp appears grey in the instrument cluster.

► At a speed below 30 km/h, the system becomes active; this warning lamp lights up green in the instrument cluster.

► As soon as the vehicle starts to descend, you can release the accelerator and brake pedals; the system controls the speed:

- if the gearbox is engaged in first or second gear, the speed decreases and the indicator flashes quickly, - if the gearbox is in neutral or the clutch pedal is depressed, the speed decreases and the indicator flashes slowly; in this case, the speed maintained on the descent is lower.

On a downhill slope, with the vehicle stationary, if you release the accelerator and brake pedals, the system releases the brakes so that the vehicle moves off gradually.

The brake lights come on automatically when the system is active.

If the speed exceeds 30 km/h, the system is automatically suspended. The indicator turns grey again on the instrument panel, but the green indicator on the button remains on.

The system resumes automatically as soon as the speed drops below 30 km/h, provided the slope and pedal release conditions are met.

You can press the accelerator or brake pedal again at any time.

Off

► Press the button until its indicator goes out; the indicator on the instrument panel goes out.

Above 70 km/h, the system switches off automatically; the button indicator goes out.

Malfunction

If a malfunction occurs, a message is displayed on the instrument panel.

Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
